Call
of Duty
Yeah,
another WWII shooter, I know. But in the plethora of PC games
devoted to the big one, none is more interesting than Call of
Duty. You play as a member of a squad instead of a Rambo clone
who has to do all the work himself. But here's the clincher:
your boys are actually SMART! Yes, the A.I. in this game is very
good, especially your fellow squad members. They duck, dodge,
shoot and move intelligently,
sometimes even better than you. There were a one or two missions
that I had no idea what I was supposed to do, and one of my
buddies did it for me. Sweet. Don't get me wrong, there are
still scripted moments during gameplay, and you won't get
through any of the levels simply by cowering behind a tree.
The
gameplay itself is frantic, delivering more whizzing bullets and
explosions than I've seen in a WWII game, and really makes you
feel like you're deep within the action. There's also the
fantastic realistic aspect of having to figure out where the
hell the shots are coming from. You'll take quite a few the
first time into an area. The missions are also pretty diverse
and interesting, even when you're just planting explosives.
Also, the one mission where you are mounted on the back of a
jeep is just too cool for words. Graphically, the game is tight.
Definitely fluid, and definitely interesting. You won't be
pausing to smell the roses or anything, but it's definitely a
step up from Medal of Honor, etc.
The problem with this game is its length. It's short...way too
short. You can
probably play through this game twice in the time it would take
you to complete MOH. Should that stop you from getting the game?
No. It's still worth the full price, and with a new expansion
pack coming soon, it might be worth hanging on to.
OVERALL: Gameplay is superb, AI is brilliant, but the game is
super short. 9/10 |
