Football Mogul 2003
Football Mogul 2003 (FM) is a
game that is like many others in the PC arena. A text based
game, the consoles have the arcade game locked up and PC is
deficient in this area. Non-the less, FM is not a very good
game.
You take the role of the
GM/owner and that is about it. It is a very buggy game and
hard to follow. You start off selecting your team and can
rename them to the current NFL teams. The cities are all
there but the Nicknames aren’t. Once you edit the nicknames
for your favorite 32 teams in their respective cities, it is
time to select the team you want to dominate with.
There isn’t any play
adjusting like in Fbpro or Madden. You cant even call play
situations as in Season Ticket FB 2003. You can only change
the roster and make trades. The trade AI is ok but when you
make an offer for something they (computer controlled teams)
they usually don’t take it unless you make an insane trade.
After you go through your regular season, then come the
bugs.
You can’t draft. I read the
message board and read that you can download the demo and
update the game. Well after taking a few moments to realize
that the demo installs by default differently than the actual
game. Demo installed to c:\sportsmogul\football2003 and the
actual game installed to the c:\sportsmogul\footballmogul2003.
You would think they would default to the same path. But they
don’t. I haven’t found a way to get the demo to change
default. I didn’t have enough patience to play this game and
really didn’t enjoy it. You can’t do custom leagues with
different alignments or different number of teams. If you want
to sim the XFL, out of luck buddy.
I would wait for the new FOF if
you are into the sim text based games, or get season ticket
2003. I know STF2003 blows this game away and not familiar yet
with front office football. This
game does allow you to play with the real NFL players and you
can change from the default blank helmets to the NFL by
downloading the helmets pack and putting in the directory
specified by the person who did the helmet renaming. I would
recommend staying away from this game and buying something
better. It is a pitiful game.
Touchdown of
the game: Has real NFL player names.
Fumble of the
game: No graphics and No play editor or play calling scheme.
PCFootball.net's
score: 15-yard fumble (15 out of 100)
