Sierra's
Front Page Sports: Football Pro '95
Front Page Sports: Football Pro '95
was the definitive version of Dynamix' excellent FPS:
Football series - at least until Internet play included with
the FPS: Football Pro '97 version. All the great features
of this venerable American football series were ahead of its
time: thousands of stock plays (3,000 in the floppy version,
10,000 in the CD version) included with the game, versatile play
editor, comprehensive coaching and league management options,
and outstanding player animation.
FPPro '95 was a challenging and
realistic simulation that appealed to everyone from casual to
die-hard fans. The best feature of the game was definitely the
play editor, which let you edit existing plays or create
virtually any type of play that you would like to use. Your
players could execute basically any action found in the real NFL
game, such as quarterbacks using play-action, receivers
stutter-stepping to fool the cornerbacks, and many more.
Basically if you saw it in a real game, you could simulate it in
FPPro '95.
Another excellent evolution from the
original 1993 version was the 360-degree, fully rotoscoped VGA
animation. This let you place the camera anywhere in the stadium
and watch the action from any view. The AI was also improved
over FPSPro '94: the computer opponent would adjust his
strategy if you followed the same play week after week. This made
league play highly challenging and unpredictable.
Overall, FPPro '95 was a
must-have for anyone who likes American football. It had
everything you could ever want in a football game, and can
easily stack up against newer, flashier games thanks to its
incredible depth and breadth. With many customizable options,
you could play either an arcade-style game or micro-manage your
team through the seasons - the choice was all yours to make.
Highly recommended, and a definite entry into our Hall of Fame.
